Cold Aisle Containment
Ever increasing 'state-of-the-art' computing power has significantly raised the heat gains in I.T. communications rooms.
Independent studies have shown that Hotspots are
caused by a number of reasons, which include:
- Limited cooling capacity per unit
- Poor cool air circulation to the Hot cabinets
- Cable congested floor void preventing adequate cool air reaching floor grilles
- Air entering the base of the cabinets through oversized cable cut-out in floor tile
Cold Aisle Containment consists of a physical barrier that allows the supply air to pool inside the aisle.
Cold aisle containment (CAC) typically consists of aisle end doors and a roof system so as to contain the supply airflow to the intake of the IT equipment. Most CAC roofs are no higher than the top of the rack. In most cases, this avoids running into obstructions such as cable trays. CAC ensures a uniform and predictable air temperature at the IT intake.
